EOYS Branding - Initial Idea 2
As I developed my ideas more, I played around with using the circle with bright colours and the typography which I had picked, which prompted me to think of a new concept. Emphasising how Leeds Arts University is a creative, close-knit community, the circle represents our circle/community. The idea behind this campaign would be to encourage students who are applying, local business’ and professional creatives alike to join us and be part of our circle.
I realised a lot of these ideas in poster designs, I think this is a good starting point because it encapsulates the visual identity well. In regards to how visually I tried to emphasis this idea of joining our circle, I experimented with a few ideas, such as putting the type within a circle, emphasising being inside the circle, and also utilising arrows to point at/into the circle.
I experimented with a lot of different circle designs, and how to graphically communicate a circle, I think ultimately the bets direction was a simple single, filled in circle, as this communicated the idea succinctly without convoluting the design.
I started utilising a warm yellow colour because it is friendly, bright and inviting and also it linked to the gold of the University’s new build exterior.
In some of these designs with a thin curved line/arrow, the contrast between the thin stroke and the big circle was quite an interesting idea to explore.
Another aspect which I explored as these initial ideas developed was the title of the exhibition being sort of a self contained shape almost like a stamp. This had quite a modular feel to it and I liked the idea of being able to apply it in very rational modular way.
