D&AD - The Wall - More initial ideas - vinyl sleeve

I started thinking about the vinyl sleeve as the format for one of the outcomes. I applied the colour neon yellow because it is arguably one of the most attention grabbing colours, catching peoples eyes, and also it links to high vis jackets and vests that you’d see construction workers wearing - people who physically tear down walls.

This idea focuses on making the type into a wall by manipulating the letters to fill the entire dimensions of the sleeve. The burst of lines is supposed to represent light bursting through a crack or hole in the wall, suggesting its better on the other side.

This design suggests a wall by using repetitive text in a modular way like bricks making up a wall.

Here I applied the stencil version of the font ‘Anton’ that I edited, simply on a neon yellow background. I quite like the simplicity and boldness of this design.

I stared playing around with the typeface SirinStencil which is not only a stencil typeface but is sort of 3d which is definitely evocative of a wall. The blue gradient rectangle is supposed to be a missing brick in a wall, revealing a blue sky on the other side.

What am I doing from here? - Having read the brief through more, I think I can alter the typeface that I use from google fonts, however I think that when judging, they would probably like to see one of these google fonts being showcased, so maybe I shouldn’t alter it too much e.g. I think what I’ve done with the stencil font is fine because the typeface is still clear. I think I need to think about the message and cause a bit, and how it relates to The Wall as a story and Album.
